Senior Connor Clark of Lake Bluff, Illinois will graduate from the CoJMC this May. This summer he'll start his first post-grad role as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball team.

Dean Veil named NSRI Fellow

Dean Shari Veil has been named a research fellow at the National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at the University of Nebraska. NSRI Fellows will contribute their expertise, talent and foresight to build multidisciplinary teams that develop solutions for complex problems across the spectrum of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNe) threats.

Nebraska journalism professor investigates the lure of extremism

About five years ago, Nebraska journalism professor Joseph Weber became intrigued by news accounts of young Somali Americans in Minnesota accused in a plot to join ISIS. In May 2016, he traveled to Minneapolis to attend the lengthy trial of three Somali-American men. That launched three years of research, including lengthy interviews with star witness Abdirahman Abdirashid Bashir, a 20-year-old diverted from the plot in the nick of time by his father and other relatives. Bashir became an FBI informant and avoided the harsh fates of some among a dozen who were once his friends: lengthy prison sentences or death in the Middle East.

Marron publishes second book "Misogyny across Global Media"

"Misogyny across Global Media," Maria Marron’s second book in the Communicating Gender Series, has just been published by Lexington Books, a division of Rowman & Littlefield. Marron, a professor of journalism in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, edited chapters from scholars worldwide and co-wrote a chapter on representations of misogyny in the Irish and English press.

Nebraska Governance and Technology Center student fellows announced

The inaugural class of Nebraska Governance and Technology student fellows includes four students from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Alex Paun, Brandi Bue, Jasmine Alexander and Rafael Maschieri Bicudo will spend the 2020-2021 academic year researching the challenges of changing technology.

Starita directs his Native American interest into publications
